- At one end of the Western Spiral Branch of the galaxy, in a remote, unmapped corner, is a secluded, small, yellow sun. A small, completely insignificant and blue-green planet orbits this sun. The planet's ape-descended creatures are so primitive that they still think the digital wristwatch is a very impressive invention. This planet had a problem like this: Most of the people living on it were unhappy most of the time. Many solutions were proposed for this problem, but most of them were related to the movements of small pieces of paper, usually green in color. This was also strange, because it wasn't actually the little green pieces of paper that were unhappy. Therefore the problem persisted; Most of the people were in bad shape and most of them were miserable, even those with digital wristwatches. First of all, the number of people who thought they had made a big mistake by coming down from the trees was increasing day by day. Nearly two thousand years later, on a Thursday, a terrible, stupid disaster occurred. This book is the story of some of the consequences of that disaster.
