John Mayall Format: Audio CD Editorial Review
**** The album "The Turning Point" by John Mayall stands out as a remarkable live recording from 1969, showcasing a blend of jazz and blues that has won the hearts of fans over the years. The absence of a traditional drummer in this performance, replaced by a talented ensemble featuring Jon Mark on guitar, Johnny Almond on sax and flute, and Steve Thompson on bass, offers a unique sound that resonates well with listeners. Critics and fans alike have praised the album for its excellent flow, with each track capturing the essence of a vibrant live performance at the iconic Fillmore East. What sets this remastered version apart is not only its crisp production quality but also the inclusion of three bonus tracks from the same show, enhancing the listening experience for both new and lifelong fans. Many reviewers have noted the high caliber of musicianship displayed throughout the album, highlighting that there is "not a bad song in the bunch." The performance captures the audience's initial hesitation transitioning into appreciation, painting a vivid picture of the concert atmosphere. For those who have been woven into the fabric of Mayall's diverse range of music, this album serves as a pivotal entry point to understanding his influential style, bridging the gap between jazz and blues while engaging new listeners. Reviewers have expressed their delight in rediscovering this classic and its powerful ability to evoke nostalgia, making it a highly recommended addition to any music lover's collection. **
